I am opposed to the concept of requiring US citizens to swear allegiance to the state in which they reside and apply for citizenship of that state. This bill appears to be in direct violation of Section 1 of the 14th amendment to the US constitution. "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." Requiring a new resident born or naturalized in another state to swear an oath of fealty to the state of New Hampshire, formally forsaking their citizenship of another state seems to be directly in opposition the US constitution, as it abridges the privileges of the citizens of the united states, and denies a right guaranteed by the US constitution, namely, the right to be a citizen of the state in which they reside. There is no other state which requires its residents to apply for state citizenship because the constitution already grants that citizenship automatically.
