FERPA already permits disclosure of student data only to individuals or entities with a legitimate educational interest. HB 1578 requires disclosure of student and family information not only to the Department of Education, but also to multiple legislative committees and the general public. Public posting of sensitive student demographic profiles and family financial data exceeds what is necessary for program oversight and undermines families trust and right to privacy.
