I'm not sure why we would be opposing municipal tax dollars being used to supplement county dollars. Shouldn't we encourage any donations for these programs? Having been involved with many different types of charities I can tell you first hand that getting donations to support the most vulnerable citizens of NH is incredibly challenging. For whatever reason it's easier to raise money to support the SPCA or local arts. We need more donations, not less. I am a conservative and before I joined one of the boards for these area agencies I figured there was probably a lot of fiscal waste in the organization (I am also a commercial banker by trade). What I have learned is that NH gets its social services at a huge bargain. We need to encourage more donations to these organizations, not less. Medical advances are making this problem worse, not better. Disabled people are living longer now. Babies who would have normally died in childbirth are now living to into their 20's, 30's, and beyond. Many disabled people are now outliving their parents, another huge issue facing this state.
