Having acted as a suicide prevention coordinator for the Newmarket School District for 6 years, I can attest to the importance of the suicide prevention in schools. Each year we provided suicide prevention to staff and students, student outcomes improved significantly year over year, particularly in the areas of adolescent depression and the identification of trusted adults. Without this mandate, and with all the budget cuts schools are facing, many students will undoubtedly lose out on this life saving education.
