HB 1635 adds another statewide mandate on schools without addressing capacity, local control, or the effectiveness of one-size-fits-all training requirements. Schools already provide suicide prevention supports and should retain flexibility to implement approaches that best fit their communities. Mandates without resources or evidence-based improvements burden schools without improving outcomes. HB 1635 should be opposed.
