Marriage is a fundamental civil right that should be protected for all people. Protection of this right at the state level is not only appropriate, it's necessary. In the wake of the Dobbs decision, we've already seen how changes to federal law can negatively impact local issues, and protection of this right will likewise also protect other family-law-related rights for gay couples.
