I live in Windham, NH and am a mother of two. I strongly oppose this bill and urge our state representatives to oppose it as well. Our tax dollars should not be funding education on hunting and guns. It’s 2026, in what world would high school kids need to be educated on hunting? We should be working to keep guns out of children’s hands not giving them an instruction manual on how to use them. I understand the intent is for safe gun practices but the safest way for a 16 year old to handle a gun is to not handle one at all. This type of education does not belong in our public schools. A 14-18 year old’s prefrontal cortex is not fully developed which is why teenagers are more impulsive, tend to take more risks, and have trouble using their best judgment around peers. Given their immaturity, this will lead to children handling guns unsafely at home and feel more emboldened to explore guns without their parents’ knowledge at home, a friend’s house or even school. This bill will result in more school shootings and more accidental gun incidents involving children in our state. Please do not let this dangerous bill pass - it will directly harm our children.
