I strongly oppose any repeal of RSA 72:62, which empowers New Hampshire municipalities to exempt solar energy systems from assessed value for property tax purposes. Well-established science dictates that we face an existential threat in the warming of our planet.. Stripping municipalities of the ability to encourage renewable energy will lead to higher energy bills and, more importantly, increased greenhouse gas emissions both within and without (not all our energy is generated locally) the State. Without the exemption, residential solar energy systems will become an economic burden to those who came out of pocket to lower their electric bills and may force some to abandon their systems. -- casualties of the budget shortfall created by the Legislature's ongoing war on public education and the shifting of State funding to the backs of local property owners. If HB 1002 goes forward, your grandchildren will be ashamed of you.
