I oppose this bill and the death penalty because it is a permanent punishment in a system that is not infallible. It has repeatedly been shown to be applied unfairly, influenced by race, income, and geography, and it does not deter violent crime. The death penalty is costly, risks executing innocent people, and moves us away from justice toward vengeance, rather than accountability and public safety.
