Everyone is aware of the common objections to capital punishment, incarceration is cheaper, it doesn’t deter crime, etcetera, so rather than reiterate them I ask you to consider the evolution of humanity. Through much of history it wasn’t feasible to incarcerate someone for life but not so today. Justice is meant to repair injury to the greatest extent possible and to protect society. Capital punishment is not justice but rather vengeance that neither protects society nor repairs injury. Vengeance reduces the humanity of those who impose it to a baser emotional and spiritual state. It leads us back to a less kind and more brutal world.. A good society is a moral one. I would rather work toward and live in a good society.
