I am writing to oppose HB 1002, the attempt to repeal the long-standing right of NH communities to grant property tax exemptions for solar energy systems. I was at Hanover's Town meeting when voters gave their support for solar exemptions - the vote was loud and clear. And since then, through my volunteer work with Sustainable Hanover, I am constantly reminded that Hanover residents support local solar, whether they own a solar system or not. They recognize that local solar is good for everyone because it lowers demand on the grid, is better for the environment, and builds community resilience. The House should be supporting local energy generation and local community control, not imposing taxes that the community has already decided is against its best interests and values.
