As a former teacher I very much oppose this bill. We see a growing crisis among our youth in regards to mental health. There are not enough resources for them as it is. Preparing our teachers who are with them all day, 5 days a week, on how to respond and what to look for, better equips them to handle the crisis that will show itself in class. I ran a drop out prevention program in a high school. Almost every student who was in the program had mental health issues that had a huge impact on their ability to receive education. If it wasn't for my training and taking mental health first aid, I would not have been prepared to handle these students effectively and be a helpful support for them. Please continue to make this training a requirement. Thank you.
