Charlotte Barrie

My name is Charlotte Barrie, and I live and work in the great state of New Hampshire, a place my husband and I proudly call home. New Hampshire is a state that cherishes freedom, fairness, and community. What has always made America and New Hampshire strong are the contributions of immigrants, our neighbors, friends, business owners, teachers, and so many who enrich our cultural fabric and contribute to our economy and quality of life. Our communities thrive because of them. That is why I support HB1609, to limit the use of state, county, and municipal funds and property for the construction and operation of certain immigrant detention facilities. We must reject policies that turn our public resources toward detaining our neighbors rather than uplifting them. In recent weeks, aggressive federal immigration enforcement operations, including a large ICE deployment in Minneapolis, have resulted in the death of multiple U.S. citizens and heightened unrest and fear throughout the country. ICE’s presence and methods have raised serious questions for many Americans about appropriate use of force, transparency, and community safety. We MUST affirm New Hampshire’s commitment to liberty, dignity, and justice, and refuse to allocate local funds or property for facilities that expand federal detention operations. Instead, let us invest in communities where everyone, native-born and immigrant alike, can live, work, and thrive free from fear. Please support HB1609. Thank you, Charlotte Barrie
