If this bill wasn't placed in 2023 I would have not been able to get protection from my abuser to protect my children. The necessity for criminal charges would make it impossible for mothers to protect their children from witnessing abuse and harm. On top of this, research has shown for decades that the day a victim tries to leave and abuser is the day they are most likely to be killed. Prolonging that process of escape increases the likelihood and risk of the loss of life. This will increase homicide by domestic violence and or keep victims trapped in those relationships.
