Kathryn Myers

Hello - My name is Katy Myers. Both of my daughter's receive the EFA money to pay for their homeschool education and a two day per week microschool. The EFA has been a blessing from God for our family this year. Our family does not qualify for the ETC as well due to my husband's income but I am disgusted and ashamed that someone would propose a bill to disqualify a family from receiving both grants due to low income. I grew up in poverty. We had our heat turned off, cable TV cancelled, no food on our table and clothes were hand-me-downs. We were very food insecure and at one point I was homeless and sleeping on friend's couches during college for a few months. I understand this was not my fault. I was a child. Why would anyone penalize CHILDREN for living in poverty and prevent them from receiving grant money to pay for their EDUCATION while living in those types of conditions. Poverty is not a child's fault. They are 100% blameless and victims in this type of situation. I find it personally and professionally appalling that a representative OF THE PEOPLE would propose such a bill. KILL this bill. It is unhelpful to anyone and PENALIZES innocent children whose families are following all rules and policies to unlock education money for their children to have a chance at escaping poverty one day.
