I respectfully oppose the idea that allowing weapons on campus will help with safety. We have seen an increase in mental health crisis with college students in recent years and allowing weapons to be kept in dorms and other spaces on campus is a recipe for disaster for both the students and the surrounding community. I live right off campus and I care about the UNH students and the faculty and staff as well as all community members here in Durham. This bill is going to contribute to more death, tragedy, trauma, heartbreak, the list goes on. More weapons do not equal a safer environment. Someone’s right to own a gun does not trump my personal safety or the safety of innocent students who could be caught in the crossfire.
