It is a simple but telling empirical fact that more guns means more deaths. Allowing rampant guns on college campuses will at least kill the atmosphere of free speech and open argument that is central to higher education, to learning critical thinking: who will argue freely a perhaps unpopular view, knowing that anyone around might be toting a gun and willing to use it? One cannot 'win' an argument by shooting one's opponent. This bill will make college campuses worse than the "wild west"--civilized towns back then required visitors to check their guns with the sheriff. Proponents of this bill seem entranced by a Hollywood concept of the lone hero operating above (or below) the law heroically saving the day. In real life, this is a very rare occurrence; safety is better served by preventive measures warding off tragedy before it starts: strict gun control.
