As a university professor in New Hampshire, I strongly oppose HB 1793, which would allow firearms on college campuses. The presence of guns in classrooms fundamentally undermines the sense of safety required for teaching, learning, and open discussion. I have personally witnessed a shooting and murder earlier in my life, and I know firsthand how devastating and lasting the impact of gun violence can be. The idea that students could be armed in academic spaces makes me feel deeply unsafe in my workplace and would change how I teach, interact with students, and carry out my responsibilities. Campuses are places for education, not armed confrontation. I urge lawmakers to protect the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff by rejecting HB 1793.
