Haddy Marte

Dear Members of the House Education Funding Committee, My name is Haddy Marte and I am a grateful parent whose children’s lives have been deeply changed by the Education Tax Credit (ETC) program. I write to you not only as a parent, but as someone who has seen firsthand how access to the right educational environment can transform a child’s future. Because of the ETC, my oldest child was able to attend a private school starting in third grade and later graduate from an outstanding high school. That opportunity gave him confidence, stability, and a strong foundation for life. Without the ETC, our family could never have afforded this path for him. Today, my younger child is in fifth grade and preparing to enter sixth. She struggles in large classroom settings, and her private school—made possible by the ETC—has given her the small class sizes, care, and support she truly needs to succeed. She is learning, growing, and believing in herself because she is in the right place. Families like mine are not asking for special treatment—we are asking for the ability to choose the educational setting that best meets our children’s needs. For many of us, the ETC is not a luxury; it is a lifeline. There are countless parents across New Hampshire who rely on this program to give their children a fair chance at success. Limiting or removing access to it would place our children’s progress and well-being at risk. HB 1803 would place an unnecessary burden on families who are already doing everything they can to support their children’s education. I respectfully ask you to listen to the voices of families like mine and to oppose HB 1803. These programs are changing lives, and my children are living proof.
