I oppose HB 1737. Killing the criminal does not heal the loss of a loved one. State sanctioned killing is neither normal nor necessary. The death penalty opens the door to the possibility of killing a person who is wrongfully convicted. The death penalty is not a deterrent. The death penalty is far more expensive than lifetime incarceration due to years of hearings and appeals.
