In addition to making the bar for obtaining a protective order much higher, this bill changes which courts have the authority to issue them from 34 locations across the state to a mere 11 locations. Our domestic violence laws do have gaps and flaws. But tearing them down to create a system that offers less safety for victims moves us in exactly the wrong direction.
