Leslie Evans | Oppose HB1737

To punish sick behavior with the death penalty is way over the line and smacks of revenge, hate and imbalance, as only the right knows how to do. DEATH PENALTY OF ANY CRIME has been shown to NOT BE A DETERRENT. Most of us will respond spontaneously, wishing the "monster" death by our own hands. If the parent, relative or child takes their revenge by killing the "monster", they in turn face the death penalty for that act. How irrational! Make the perpetrator PAY FOR THERAPTY for him or herself and for the victim, while incarcerated. Make the perp attend treatment for the disorder that may have begun when they were raped at a young age or abused in some insane way by an adult in THEIR life. Not all who perp were damaged but all who perp need as much compassion and rehabilitation as the "victim". The problem with our system is that we prefer to wipe out the offender rather than treat the aberration, because "fixing" is just too damn hard and long. It's time to grow up and follow your religious inclinations. You talk a good story of "Christian" compassion, love etc. But none of you embrace that. All you want is justification for your own lust of power and blood letting.
