I strongly support HB 1642. Extreme Risk Protection Orders provide a lawful, temporary, and court-supervised tool to prevent violence by removing firearms from individuals who pose an immediate danger to themselves or others. Family members, household members, and law enforcement are often the first to recognize warning signs, and this bill gives them a responsible mechanism to act before tragedy occurs. ERPOs respect due process while prioritizing public safety, which is exactly where the balance should be.
