As a member of the public, I strongly support this bill to guarantee meaningful recess time for New Hampshire students and to protect it from being used as a disciplinary tool. Recess is not a luxury, it is a critical part of a child’s physical health, emotional regulation, and ability to learn. Young children need time to move their bodies, reset their minds, and practice social skills in order to be successful in the classroom. Removing recess often has the opposite of the intended effect, increasing stress and behavioral challenges rather than improving focus or accountability. This bill recognizes what educators, parents, and child development experts already know: kids learn better when their basic developmental needs are met. Protecting recess ensures that all students, regardless of school or circumstance, have the opportunity to grow, regulate, and thrive. I urge you to support this common-sense measure for the well-being and long-term success of New Hampshire’s children.
