New Hampshire has higher reporting rates for sexual assault and domestic violence than national average. ONE IN THREE women report experiencing intimate partner violence in their lifetime, ONE IN FOUR women report experiencing sexual assault. The majority of our homicides are due to domestic violence. Cutting funding for crisis centers and survivor services is absolutely absurd. Your neighbors, families, and constituents use these vital services. As a Nurse Practitioner and SANE/forensic nurse, crisis centers are a lifeline to ensure that these survivors receive the care and support they need in the community. It is already challenging to obtain a protective order -creating more barriers to this harms people. People in situations where protective orders are needed may not want to press criminal charges for a variety of reasons, including that they are scared of the person who has caused them harm and not pressing charges in their eyes helps to diffuse the situation.
