While the second amendment is integral to American democracy, there are several reasons why this bill is futile. First, as a student at the University of New Hampshire, campus police is near omnipresent and can respond extremely quickly to any violent incidents, additionally there are emergency call stations all over campus. Because of this, firearms are not needed for self defense. Secondly, the right to bear arms is often used to defend property. Most students on campus have no significant property to defend, as all land is publicly owned. Only personal possessions may require defense, but theft and break-ins are nearly unheard of, in my time at the University of New Hampshire. Colleges are inherently communal in nature, and allowing firearms would not only erode communalism and social trust but would also likely make the campus more unsafe overall.
