I live on a river and we have beaver and a beaver dam, This fall a trapper who was hired by the town asked me if I minded if he removed the beaver. I was very adamant that he not remove them. We had a long discussion about why and how. He has to kill the beavers because they are heavy and the trap is heavy and frequently they die in the trap anyway, but they would be too heavy to move. He does relocate all other animals but kills beaver. The concern was that the road would flood and so the beaver should be removed. I have lived here 35 years and know that that is not a problem and that the beavers dam actually makes it safer and holds back some water plus there is another restricted area several hundred feet away that also keeps everything from flooding. Because I have lived here so long and know the area I am aware that killing beaver is unnecessary. Our whole neighborhood and road appreciate the beaver and walk down to watch them and there would have been a big controversy had anyone trespassed on my land and killed the animals.
