Jordan Britton

My name is Jordan Britton and I am a lifelong resident of Rochester, NH. I am an alum of the University of New Hampshire, and I am in strong opposition of HB 1793. I believe the passing of this bill would put the safety of college students at risk without addressing the ever rising concern of gun violence. It has been proven time and time again that more guns do not result in safer communities. As someone who has grown up with firearms, I know the dangers they poses, especially in the hands of young adults who do not have adequate safety training. To pass this bill would be reckless to say the least. The average college students are ages 18-24, and at this age the brain is heightened to seek reckless and thrilling behaviors involving drugs, alcohol, partying and other activities that do not need weapons involved. The state of New Hampshire needs to prioritize safety and invest in preventative measures to ensure college students are not victims of gun violence. Preventative measures such as safe/secure storage laws, restricting private sales to ensure background checks, prohibiting sales to individuals with violent history and to those with mental health struggles, raising the minimum age of owning a firearm, and placing bans on NH on assault style weapons and high capacity magazines would be a good place to start. Thank you for your time, and I trust you will make the right decision to keep New Hampshire college campuses safe from gun violence.
