I strongly support HB 1507, requiring schools to provide a minimum OF 45-60 minutes of time for recess per day, to be included as instructional time. As a parent, I can see the effect on my child when there is "indoor recess" instead of outdoor recess. Children need time to move their bodies and get fresh air in order to come back to the classroom refreshed and ready to learn. This Act does not place an undue burden on school districts, which have the flexibility to develop a policy that works with their schools. It does not place any requirements on the type of structures or areas required for recess, just that the recess should be unstructured and outside, unless weather makes that unsafe.
