I would like to express my opposition for this bill. As a school nurse in New Hampshire who works directly with general and special education students in the public school setting this proposal would be harmful to all students. Students with disabilities have every right to an inclusive and supportive education along side their peers. Students should be able to learn from one another and often times general education students have the most to learn from their peers with disabilities. I’ve seen typical peers learn compassion, watch resilience, learn patience, and become more understanding. I’ve seen students with disabilities thrive in classrooms with their peers, increasing verbal communication and improving their social skills. Inclusive classrooms are beneficial on so many levels. This type of segregation is not what New Hampshire public schools stand for. Please oppose HB1221.
