I strongly oppose NH HB 1580 because it will have a negative impact on NH’s economy and housing market. In a state where similar taxes are historically opposed, this will create a new tax burden on second home owners and deter other home owners from buying a secondary residence in NH. Introducing this new tax goes against the fundamental principles of the state of NH and opens the door for new future taxes. This bill will have a significant economic impact on tourism and second home owners. Second home owners already pay high NH property taxes, which contributes greatly to the local economy. This new high tax could potentially deter people from buying a secondary residence, which would in turn harm the real estate market and other service related businesses, including construction. This bill could have unintended consequences, including making the state less attractive to future residents.
