The state has no business killing people, this isn't Game of Thrones. The death penalty runs counter to civilized society. It won't undo what was done to the victim. There are *far* too many issues with the legal system to be trusted with this. Even ONE wrongfully convicted person killed is a tragedy that cannot be undone. Our prisons are nasty enough to be a strong punishment without putting such a stain on our hearts. Every dollar spent pursuing executions is a dollar not spent on rehabilitation, victim services, mental health care, or substance use treatment. The court system is for accountability, not vengeance.
