Reintroducing the death penalty to the state of New Hampshire is a waste of taxpayer money that will provide no benefit. The death penalty has been proven not to affect deterring crime and costs taxpayers additional money as opposed to life imprisonment. Further, the death penalty is frequently used unjustly against the poor and people of color, and introducing the death penalty will only further systemic injustice in our criminal justice system. If New Hampshire is serious about trying to deter crime, the funds that would go towards the death penalty would be better used in providing better education, jobs, and living conditions, which have been proven to be the best ways to deter crime.
