Im a Pediatrician in NH and advocate that Hepatitis B vaccine be available for infants, children and adults. It is one of the safest vaccines available. It is so safe that it has been given to newborn babies in the first hours of life . And guess what, babies tolerate it fine. Hepatitis B is a terrible disease that can cause liver failure leading to the need for a liver transplant or liver cancer. 1/3 of people with Hepatitis B disease will carry it and never get sick, BUT can transmit it to others. Another 1/3 of people with Hepatitis B disease will die of liver cancer, and the other 1/3 of people will die from liver failure. This is completely preventable with the vaccine. It is paramount to the health of our citizens that this vaccine be available AND RECOMMENDED for all infants. Removing the vaccine from the state list will decrease its uptake, AND will lead to more infected citizens...so more liver failure, liver cancer and death
