William Johnson

I’m writing to you today to express my concerns about this bill. We own two homes, one being our permanent residence and one as an additional piece of property, both in Moultonborough. We don’t rent either one. These two bills would massively increase our tax bill on our non-primary residence home. If the impetuous for this bill is to raise taxes on properties that are being used for rentals then I think it needs to clearly aim at that category and not come at it “sideways” which this bill seems to be doing. If rentals are the issue then this bill needs to be re-written to reflect that goal. If the sponsors of this bill are attempting to control the amount of renting going on with second homes I’m almost certain that this bill will have the exact opposite effect. People will have to rent their homes more to cover the additional fees/taxes. Penalizing people who own more than one home who are residents of the State and are not renting, or not renting for substantial numbers of weeks (to be defined) is just not fair.
