I am a New Hampshire resident and the owner of a small, non-primary residential property in the White Mountains (Carroll). I oppose HB1068. Short-term rentals in New Hampshire are already subject to Meals and Rooms taxes, and current law provides sufficient clarity for tax compliance and administration. HB1068 introduces unnecessary and potentially confusing changes to the definition of “hotels” by including short-term rentals that are already regulated and taxed. Expanding statutory definitions in this manner creates risk for future regulatory creep and inconsistent interpretation, without providing a clear revenue or policy benefit. This approach may increase compliance burdens for small, tax-compliant property owners without improving enforcement or tax collection. I respectfully urge the committee to vote Inexpedient to Legislate on HB1068.
