Sharon Brown | Oppose SB211

SB211 must never pass. There is no data to support the need for this bill. SB211 is based on the falsehood that individuals are born as biologically either male or female. There are many genetic variances besides the typical XY and XX chromosome pairs. It is also built on the falsehood that individuals who transition from the sex they were assigned at birth are a threat to other individuals. No person would identify as a gender they weren't assigned at birth in order to win at sports. People who play sports sometimes get injured or lose, no matter who their opponents are. Singling out a small group of people is cruel and dehumanizing. It fails to consider how much higher the incidence rates of mental illness and suicide are among those who identify as other than the sex they were assigned. This bill attempts to solve a nonexistent problem and causes harm. I have a young relative whose life as "not normal" makes them suicidal. When Donald Trump announced that humans are either male or female, they told me "The President says I don't deserve to exist". This young relative and their peers deserve to live a full and healthy life. It would be unconscionable for the State of New Hampshire to deny that.
