I volunteer as an intake and first responder for Saint Vincent DePaul , a Catholic organization that does charity work for the poor. The face of the poor has changed significantly. They are no longer individuals without jobs, but people who we now call the working class poor. Employers will not hire workers full time, so the employer does not have to provide benefits of any type. The working class poor frequently work two part time jobs, with unstable hours, and still are unable to make ends meet. They receive poor wages and lack of benefits. By cutting Medicaid it is one more way we as a society turn our backs on our own citizens and show them how little we care. We force them to work when they are sick, and take away their rights to a system that currently provides minimum healthcare to those in need.
