My mother was a Medicaid patient, in hospice, in her 90s, during Covid. Without Medicaid (which was most limiting insofar as qualified health care aides), it would have been even more burdensome. She had been a single mother of six children, daring to leave an abusive alcoholic husband in the 1960s. She did well in her children who have contributed to society in many viable ways, but without some help with Social Services, it would have been dire. Medicaid especially helped her in her older years. Please don't make it more burdensome to the vulnerable low-income families whom you don't know their full stories. It is atrocious to say to the majority of struggling low-income families, "God helps those who help themselves." Most people on Social Services (and I said most) are ashamed of it and want to to be independent. Some are stuck in generational cycles and some have mental illness. A very small percentage take advantage of it The dissolution of Medicaid or making stringent, impossible demands to have it, should be verboten.
