Relative to SB 134: Medicaid Work Requirement. In principle, I have no objection to a work requirement. However, the devil is in the details. The thresholds for a work requirement must be high with assurances that “able bodied” is truly that. Moreover, an individual’s obligation to fulfill a non-paying function such as child or family elder care must be taken into account before applying the work requirement. Finally, the processes for applying for and renewing Medicaid must be very user friendly, thus avoiding a de facto impediment to receiving Medicaid. Given what’s going on in the new immigration policies, I am truly concerned that the same punitive methods may be applied unfairly in denying Medicaid to persons with a genuine need. Thank you for your consideration. Respectfully, Alex Medlicott MD Piermont NH
