This bill is does nothing to help Granite State residents, but instead, places unnecessary barriers in front of the people who need help the most. Data shows that 91 percent of adults enrolled in Medicaid are either already working, caring for a child or loved one, managing an illness or disability, or attending school. Many of those who are not working are unable to because of health or other issues (like my daughter, who will never be able to work due to her medical condition). Subjecting them to work requirements, as proposed in SB 134, will not increase employment, but rather take away the health care coverage they need to get and stay healthy enough to work. This is cruelty, pure and simple. Instead of creating barriers to these vital services for the most vulnerable and needy residents of New Hampshire, try finding alternate sources of funding to continue these important programs. Taxing the wealthy would be a great place to start.
