The Office of the Child Advocate has concerns about SB 34 relative to parental consent for student participation in Medicaid to schools program, as it is currently drafted (it is the same as 2024's HB1616). Parents are already required to consent for medical treatment for children, and requiring a new consent for each individual diagnostic code would be burdensome on parents and school personnel alike. Children and families utilizing the Medicaid to School program are among the most vulnerable, and additional burdens on parents could limit access to medical/dental care for the kids who need it the most.
