As a former teacher and school librarian, I was trained to select appropriate books for all the students in my schools based on their needs and ability. As a parent, I also helped my children select appropriate books as I believe all parents should. I do not however believe one parent should be able to decide that one book that they don't happen to like is a bad book. First of all, have they even bothered to read the book that is challenged? In my professional experience, most have not. Therefore, people who have not even read the challenged book are deciding it is not appropriate for kids who they don't even know.
