SB 84 mandates that towns of any size adopt a zoning policy that belongs only in larger cities. This bill is no doubt well meaning. There is certainly a housing shortage that must be addressed. But for sure it is short-sighted. It seems to ignore the differences between urban life and rural life. One may wish to live in one or in the other. But if the same zoning rules apply to both, the result will be a state that is largely suburbs! What makes sense in Manchester, Concord, Nashua, Salem, all of the urban and suburban areas throughout New Hampshire, is quite different from what makes sense in the little towns around the state. These beautiful places are what the state is known for. If we adopt a state-wide solution to the housing crisis that fails to account for this simple fact, it will have catastrophic consequences to our quality of life here. Thank you for your service, and thanks for your attention to his crucial matter. Sincerely, Lawrence Siegel, Westmoreland, New Hampshire
