Hannah McGrath

Dear House Ways and Means Committee, My name is Hannah, and I am a 24-year-old resident of New Hampshire. I am deeply concerned about my future in this state, particularly regarding our energy policies. We must make a swift and just transition to renewable energy sources to ensure long-term sustainability and economic stability. The Renewable Energy Fund (REF) has supported nearly 10,000 rebates for renewable energy systems benefiting NH homeowners, businesses, schools, towns, and non-profits. This bill would divert REF funds toward minimal short-term savings on energy bills rather than investing in the renewable energy projects they were designed to support. The real question we should be asking is why the Department of Energy has allowed over $20 million in REF funds to accumulate rather than allocating them to energy projects that would lower costs and improve energy independence for communities across New Hampshire. Instead of repurposing these funds for temporary relief, we should ensure they are used effectively to advance our state's clean energy future. I urge you to oppose this bill (HB224-FN) and prioritize the long-term benefits of renewable energy investments over short-term cost reductions. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Hannah McGrath
