The Office of the Consumer Advocate is a voice for ratepayers and its independence should not be taken away. You should not move its functions to the Department of Energy (DOE) because the DOE is an agency run by political appointees whose agendas will shift as the party in power shifts. Consumers need consistency and the independent status of the OCA allows it to advocate for citizens at the Public Utilities Commission without any political pressure and without any worries about conflicts of interest.
