As a 24-year-old deeply concerned about the climate crisis and my generation’s ability to afford a future in New Hampshire, I strongly oppose HB 610. The Office of the Consumer Advocate (OCA) is crucial in protecting ratepayers and ensuring fair energy regulation free from political influence. Moving these functions to the Department of Energy, which political appointees run, undermines the OCA's independence and effectiveness, leaving consumers more vulnerable to overrepresented corporate interests in regulatory spaces. New Hampshire needs strong, consistent advocacy for ratepayers, not a system swayed by shifting political agendas. I urge legislators to reject this bill and preserve the OCA's independent voice for the benefit of all Granite Staters.
