Currently the Consumer Advocate protects the wallets of the ratepayers. If this position were placed under the Department of Energy, the Consumer Advocate could become vulnerable to political pressure. Currently the state benefits from having different points of view represented in the deliberation of policy affecting ratepayers. If the Consumer Advocate is beholden to political favor, the ratepayers of New Hampshire will lose a champion.
