The advent of childhood immunizations have saved tens of thousands of lives and saved many others from the long term non lethal implications of once prevalent childhood diseases. The maintenance of a high adoption rate is critical to keep them from coming back as evidenced by the measles outbreak in Texas. Not immunizing because of a legitimate religious reason is one thing but just allowing any parent to opt out based on a simple statement will lead to abuse and lowering of vaccination rates.
