A terrible bill. I have been a property owner since the early 1980’s. I have always been happy to support public education, but the property tax burden is becoming increasingly challenging as I age. I am deeply opposed to my money going to weaken local school systems while supporting some mashup of private and religious schools and home schooling. There would be no set standards for these “educations”; in many cases I believe such funding would violate the separation of church and state. I must also note that as a senior citizen, while having paid into the school systems for decades, I and my fellows receive no thanks, no breaks, and minimal services in exchange. I believe we should strengthen our local schools while looking for ways to support seniors in staying in their homes with access to home health, local transportation, and energy audits and refurbishing.
